Description :
4-Methoxyphthalic acid is a phenolic and surfactant. It is soluble in water and has a melting point of 45 degrees celsius. It is insoluble in ether and chloroform, but can be crystallized out of methanol. 4-Methoxyphthalic acid has been shown to be an intermediate in the synthesis of 3-nitrophthalic acid, which can then be converted into styrene, formaldehyde, acrylic acid, or phenolic sulfoxide. The yield of 4-methoxyphthalic acid varies depending on the method used for production.
