Methyl 1-benzyl-4-oxo-3-piperidinecarboxylate hydrochloride is a medicament that binds to the D4 receptor in the brain. It is an x-ray crystal structure of a polycyclic system with a dihedral angle of 180 degrees. The drug has been shown to be active at physiological concentrations and it has a strong affinity for dopamine receptors, especially when in dimers. Methyl 1-benzyl-4-oxo-3-piperidinecarboxylate hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit dopamine hydroxamate amine oxidase and produce an increase in dopamine levels in the brain.
