2-methoxyphenyl phenyl ether (2MPPE) is an amide compound that is a derivative of the enantiomer of phenol. This compound has been shown to have antibacterial properties. 2MPPE has been used in the synthesis of triclosan, which is used as an antibacterial agent. 2MPPE also has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to fatty acids and hydroxyl groups. 2MPPE can be demethylated to form phenol and carboxylic acid. The nitro group on 2MPPE can be reduced to a hydroxy group, which can undergo further reactions with inorganic acids.
