2-Methyltetrahydrofuran-3-one is a synthetic compound that has been identified as a potential aromatase inhibitor. It has been shown to inhibit the conversion of androstenedione to estrone in human breast cancer cells. 2-Methyltetrahydrofuran-3-one also had anticancer activity against p. aeruginosa, a bacterium that is resistant to many antibiotics. In addition, 2-methyltetrahydrofuran-3-one was shown to be safe for use in humans and animals in preliminary studies. This compound can be extracted from fruit extract using ethyl formate or caproic acid as solvents. Safety testing of this compound has indicated that it does not cause adverse effects at concentrations up to 10 mg/kg body weight when administered orally or intravenously. The chemical reactions of 2-methyltetrahydrofuran-3-one have been studied
