Description

Methyl-2-mercaptopropionate is a compound that is used as an active substance for medicines and inorganic compounds. It is also a monomer, which is used to make polymers. Methyl-2-mercaptopropionate can be applied in the production of crop plants and copolymerization. This compound has cytotoxic effects on cells, which may be due to its role in the transfer of sulfur from one molecule to another. Methyl-2-mercaptopropionate can also be converted into methyl mercaptan by hydrolysis with water or acid, or it can be oxidized by ozone or hydrogen peroxide. It can also be degraded by microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and algae.
