- Methyl 4-Cyano-5-(Methylsulfanyl)Thiophene-2-Carboxylate
Methyl 4-cyano-5-(methylthio)thiophene-2-carboxylate is a multitargeted agent that inhibits the kinases of cancer cells. Methyl 4-cyano-5-(methylthio)thiophene-2-carboxylate has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation in cancer cells, specifically targeting the G1 and G0 phases. It also has been shown to inhibit tyrosine kinase activity. This compound is being studied as an anticancer drug for breast cancer and colon cancer. Methyl 4-cyano-5-(methylthio)thiophene-2-carboxylate is not toxic to normal cells, but does have some toxicity to lung cells, which may be due to its ability to cause DNA damage.
