• Description: Methyl 6-chloronicotinate is a quinoline derivative that has been shown to have cytotoxic effects. This compound inhibits the DNA repair protein O6-alkylguanine-DNA alkyltransferase (O6-AGAT) and induces apoptosis by binding to the cation channel and inhibiting the influx of calcium ions, which leads to an increase in intracellular calcium levels. Methyl 6-chloronicotinate also inhibits cancer cell proliferation through its interaction with the voltage-gated sodium channels and potassium channels, which leads to cell death. The molecular modeling study revealed that methyl 6-chloronicotinate binds to a deep hydrophobic pocket on the surface of hct116 cells, indicating that this drug may be a potential anticancer agent.
