• Description: 2-Methyl-3-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)propionaldehyde (2MMPP) is a minor constituent of piperonal. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of intracellular calcium levels in humans and rat prostate cancer cells. The mechanism of action is thought to be through an interaction with fatty acid receptors and alterations in cytosolic calcium levels. 2MMPP has been found to act as an odorant binding agent that binds to the olfactory receptor OR5AN1 and alters its function. 2-Methyl-3-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)propionaldehyde has also been shown to have high electrochemical impedance spectroscopy values, which may indicate its ability to remove organic contaminants from wastewater treatment systems.
