Description

5-Methoxy-7-azaindole is a gelation inhibitor. Gelatin is a protein that is found in the connective tissues of animals and is used as a thickener for sauces, desserts, ice cream, and other foods. 5-Methoxy-7-azaindole inhibits the enzyme phosphatase, which prevents the release of calcium ions from the cell. This leads to an increase in collagen production and increased elasticity of connective tissue. 5-Methoxy-7-azaindole has been shown to be neuroprotective against glutamate toxicity in vitro and has been shown to inhibit replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV) in cultured cells without affecting normal cells. 5-Methoxy-7-azaindole has also been shown to have antihepatitis activity by inhibiting viral RNA synthesis and inhibiting viral DNA synthesis.5-Methoxy - 7 - azaindole
