Description

Alpha-Methyl-DL-phenylalanine is a chemical compound that is used as a substrate for creatine kinase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of creatine to phosphocreatine. This reaction is involved in the creation of ATP, the cell's main energy source. Alpha-Methyl-DL-phenylalanine has low potency and can be used in experimental models to study protein synthesis. This molecule also has a high affinity for basic proteins and monoamine neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin. The uptake of alpha-Methyl-DL-phenylalanine by neurons is increased when fatty acids are present.
