Description

2-Methylindole-3-carboxaldehyde is a molecule that belongs to the group of indole alkaloids. It has a formyl group, which can be converted to a chloride via spirocyclization. 2-Methylindole-3-carboxaldehyde has been synthesized in the laboratory and its structure confirmed by chemical interactions with other molecules. This molecule has shown activity against n. meningitidis, but not against S. pneumoniae or E. coli. It is also active as an antioxidant, which may be due to its ability to scavenge free radicals and inhibit lipid peroxidation. This compound is soluble in water and stable in air and light, and it can be stored for up to two years at room temperature without decomposition.
