4'-Methoxy-2'-methylacetophenone is a Friedel-Crafts acylation reagent that is synthesized by the reaction of acetyl chloride with an aromatic compound. It is used as a catalyst for the synthesis of bromoacetic acid, which is then converted to chloroacetic acid. 4'-Methoxy-2'-methylacetophenone also undergoes acetylation reactions, which are catalyzed by strong acids.
