- Benzoicacid, 2-methoxy-3-nitro-
2-Methoxy-3-nitrobenzoic acid (2MNOBA) is a symmetric molecule that can be synthesised by reduction reactions. It can also be obtained by alkaline hydrolysis of 2-bromo-3-nitrobenzoic acid in the presence of an aluminium chloride catalyst, or by stepwise advance in the presence of sodium borohydride. The cyclisation reaction proceeds with high yields and forms a macrocyclic compound. This product can be functionalised at the 2 position to form a sulphoxide group. This group is reactive and can be used to produce a variety of compounds with different functionalities, such as macrocycles.
