2-Methyl-quinoline-4-carboxylic acid belongs to the class of active substances and is a metabolite of L-DOPA. It has been shown to inhibit the production of beta amyloid in an immunochemical assay for Alzheimer's disease. The reaction time for 2-methylquinoline-4-carboxylic acid is 30 minutes, which is faster than some other active substances. This compound can be synthesized from L-DOPA by ethyl esters and is used as a substrate in analytical methods, such as immunochemical assays, to measure the level of beta amyloid in humans. 2MCCA has also been studied as a vaccine candidate against Leishmania parasites.
