- 3-Methoxypropanoic Acid
3-Methoxypropionic acid is a carboxylic acid that is used as a precursor to propylene glycol. 3-Methoxypropionic acid can be synthesized by the dehydration of ethyl 3-hydroxypropionate, which is obtained by reacting acrylonitrile and dimethylamine in the presence of hydrochloric acid. This reaction produces an excess of acrylonitrile, which can be converted into acrylic acid or acrylate esters. The yield for this process is high and no toxic gases are produced.
