Description :
2-Methyl-Pentanedioic acid is a metabolite that inhibits the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase, which is involved in the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol. 2-Methyl-pentanedioic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by irreversible inhibition of the acetyl-CoA carboxylase enzyme. This amino acid is used as a substrate molecule for kinetic studies of bacterial mutases, which are enzymes that catalyze transfer reactions involving amino acids. The analytical method for measuring 2-methyl-pentanedioic acid in biological samples involves gas chromatography with flame ionization detection. Mutations in the gene encoding this enzyme can result in metabolic disorders such as hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia.
