(S)-1-Methyl-3-pyrrolidinol is a chiral compound that is currently being investigated for use as a radioligand in molecular imaging. It has been shown to have high affinity for the muscarinic receptor, which is involved in the regulation of neurotransmitter release. This drug also has neuropathological and neurochemical effects, such as inhibition of butyrylcholinesterase and transduction of nerve cells with fluorescent dyes. The racemic mixture can be used to image Alzheimer's disease and other neurological diseases. (S)-1-Methyl-3-pyrrolidinol binds to the receptor on nerve cells and can be used to assess the severity of Alzheimer's disease and other neurological conditions by binding to amyloid plaques. This drug is also capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, which makes it useful for imaging purposes.
