Description

(R)-(-)-S-Methyl-S-phenylsulfoximine is a photophysical reagent that is used to study the reaction mechanism of sulfur compounds. It has been shown to react with diethyl ether and form a coordination complex. This complex reacts with potassium t-butoxide to produce sulfoxide and the corresponding alcohol. The reaction mechanism of this compound has been studied by theoretical calculations, which show that it is catalytic with acetonitrile as the solvent. The yields are unsymmetrical, which is due to the use of a chiral catalyst.
