Description :3-Methylbenzonitrile is an aromatic hydrocarbon with the molecular formula of C6H5CH2CN. It is a colorless liquid that has a boiling point of 203°C and density of 1.07 g/mL at 20°C. 3-Methylbenzonitrile has a molecular weight of 112.14 g/mol and consists of two isomers, cis-3-methylbenzonitrile and trans-3-methylbenzonitrile. The compound is soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, ether, chloroform, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride but not in hexane or petroleum ether. It can be oxidized to benzoic acid by hydrogen chloride or electron reduction.
