Description :4-Methylresorcinol is a phenolic compound that has been shown to have a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. It is an inhibitor of 3-hydroxybenzoic acid, a key metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids and lignin. 4-Methylresorcinol inhibits the enzyme tyrosine ammonia lyase, which converts tyrosine to 3-hydroxybenzoic acid. The synthetic nature of 4-methylresorcinol makes it an attractive candidate for use as an antifungal agent, since it does not produce any byproducts in the human body. 4-Methylresorcinol also has antifungal activity against other organisms such as Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, and Trichoderma viride.
