5-Methyl-7-hydroxyisoflavone is a chemical compound that is used as a supplement in the treatment of menopausal symptoms. It is structurally similar to other flavonoids and has been shown to inhibit the activity of estrogen which plays a role in the development of breast cancer and prostate cancer. 5-Methyl-7-hydroxyisoflavone has been shown to have an antioxidant effect when given orally, with the highest concentrations found in urine samples collected after approximately 2 hours. This chemical compound can be synthesized efficiently using synthetic methods, such as electrospray ionization, liquid chromatography, or by reacting methoxy and morpholine with triethyl orthoformate.
