N-Methyl-D-serine (NMDS) is a molecule that is structurally similar to the amino acid serine. NMDS has been shown to interact with the enzyme n-methyl-d-aspartic acid (NMDA), which is involved in the signaling pathway of neurotransmitters and hormones. NMDS has been shown to inhibit the growth of human skin fibroblasts in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of proteins such as collagen. The biological effects of NMDS have not yet been determined, but it has shown potential for use as an anti-viral agent and as a treatment for neuroendocrinological diseases.
