Description

Monostearyl citrate is a metal chelate that is used as an analog of citric acid. It has a hydrophobic effect and can be used to prevent the formation of scale in boilers. Monostearyl citrate also has the ability to bind to sodium cations and form insoluble salts, which are used as a model system for ion exchange resins. This compound can also be used to remove water vapor from air conditioning systems. Monostearyl citrate is found in cosmetics, such as eye shadows, lipsticks, and hair sprays. It has been shown to have symptoms of fatty acid metabolism disorders in rats.
