6-Methylpyridine-2,4-diol is a diazonium salt that can be used to catalyze the reaction between diazo compounds and carbon tetrachloride. It has been found to protect against liver injury in control experiments using β-unsaturated aldehydes. 6-Methylpyridine-2,4-diol is also able to inhibit the formation of ipomoea alkaloids in plants. This drug is an active methylene compound and binds to quinoline derivatives, which are acid molecules that have been shown to activate it by lowering the activation energy. 6-Methylpyridine-2,4-diol also has antiinflammatory properties due to its ability to bind with piperidine, which is an aldehyde that has been shown to be hepatoprotective.
