Description

1-Methylpyrene is a surfactant that is used to treat inflammatory bowel diseases. It has been shown to reduce the number of redox potentials in the bowel, which may be due to its ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation by reducing the concentration of reactive oxygen species. 1-Methylpyrene also inhibits the proliferation of tubule cells and decreases their motility, which may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis. 1-Methylpyrene has been shown to have antioxidant properties, which may be due to its ability to prevent oxidative damage of proteins and DNA.
