Description

Methyl 5-aminobenzoate is an inhibitor of the human neutrophil elastase enzyme. It is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme, and has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the activity of amoxicillin sodium and clavulanate potassium against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in cell-based assays. The compound also inhibited the production of elastase by thp-1 cells at micrometer concentrations. Methyl 5-aminobenzoate has been shown to be chemically stable and have good pharmacokinetic properties. This compound has potential to be developed as an anti-inflammatory drug for use in treating asthma and COPD.
