Description

Nicotinic acid-N-oxide is a pyridine compound that can be synthesized by the oxidation of nicotinic acid with nitric acid. It is an agonist of the 5-HT2 receptor, which is involved in many physiological processes, such as regulating blood pressure and heart rate. Nicotinic acid-N-oxide has been shown to have antihypertensive effects in animal models of hypertension, and it has also been shown to have cardioprotective effects in rats with congestive heart failure. This compound also exhibits antibacterial properties against various bacteria, including C. coli K-12.br>
Nicotinic acid-N-oxide is a hydrogen bond donor, which enables it to form strong hydrogen bonds with other molecules and ions. The nicotinic acid moiety acts as an electron acceptor for the N-oxide group, forming a copper complex. Copper complexes are able to bind tightly to protein genes and inhibit their function.
