4-(4-Nitrophenyl)-1,3-thiazol-2-amine (NPTZ) is a high yield salivary amine that can be used to measure the concentration of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in tissues. NPTZ reacts with cGMP to form an azide intermediate, which reacts with hydrazine to produce a redox indicator dye. This reaction is detected using spectrometric techniques and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The proton magnetic resonance spectrum of 4-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-thiazol-2-amine has been characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
