1-(3-Nitrophenyl)pyrrolidine is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of quinacrines. It is used as an antimalarial drug, because it inhibits the growth of Plasmodium falciparum in human red blood cells. The mechanism of action is not yet known, but it has been shown to be active against a wide range of human pathogens, including bacteria and fungi. 1-(3-Nitrophenyl)pyrrolidine can be synthesized from phenylacetonitrile and formaldehyde in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature. The yields are high with this method but it requires an optimization step.
