• Description: 5-Nitro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene (5NT) is a nitrated aromatic hydrocarbon that has been used in the synthesis of steroids. The unsaturation and high reactivity of 5NT make it useful in organic chemistry as a reactive intermediate. 5NT can be used to form a covalent bond with an electron-rich molecule to form a new molecule. The boiling point of 5NT is at approximately 140°C and it evaporates rapidly. Nitration of 5NT leads to the formation of 2-nitroanisole.
