- Oxazole, 4,5-Dihydro-2-(4-Nitrophenyl)-
2-(4-Nitrophenyl)-4,5-dihydro-1,3-oxazole is a nitroarene compound with a phenyl group on the aromatic ring. It has been shown to be an active catalyst for the reduction of sodium borohydride to form sodium borohydride. This reaction can be carried out in a single crystal of the molecule by x-ray diffraction methods. The catalytic activity of 2-(4-Nitrophenyl)-4,5-dihydro-1,3-oxazole is due to its ability to bind two molecules of sodium borohydride simultaneously. The binding site is located near the oxygen atom at the 1 and 3 positions in the aromatic ring.
2-(4-Nitrophenyl)-4,5-dihydro-1,3-oxazole has also been shown to exhibit diffraction properties in a single crystal x ray diffraction experiment
