Description :NXY-059 is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist that has been shown to reduce the severity of bowel disease, with reduced low potency. It is used in the treatment of diarrhoea and inflammatory bowel disease. Clinical studies have shown that NXY-059 may help to reduce the incidence of diarrhoeal episodes in patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as reducing the severity of symptoms. In addition, this drug has been shown to inhibit neuronal death and increase ATP levels in vitro. Clinical trials have also indicated that NXY-059 may be useful for treating myocardial infarct and improving renal function. This drug is not recommended for use in people who are overweight or obese, as it can lead to a reduction in glomerular filtration rate.
