N-Methyl-n-(4-pyridylmethyl)amine is a fluorescent compound that has been shown to be photoinduced and electrostatically active. This compound can be used as an electron donor in the immobilized ternary electron transfer reaction, which is a process that involves the transfer of electrons from one molecule to another. It has also been shown to have high affinity for metal surfaces such as gold and silver. The binding of this molecule to metal surfaces may be due to its ability to act as a hydrogen bond donor. N-Methyl-n-(4-pyridylmethyl)amine can also serve as an electron acceptor in the transfer of electrons between polymers, and is soluble in water at neutral or acidic pH values.
