Naphtholas-lt is a chemical that belongs to the class of aromatic amines. It is also known as naphthylamine and aminoazotoluene. The compound may be used in the manufacture of dyes, pigments, and other organic chemicals. It has an affinity for fiber and coupling. Naphtholas-lt is obtained by condensation of toluidine with nitrous acid, followed by reaction with ammonium chloride. The colourless liquid product crystallizes upon exposure to air or alkaline solution. When heated, it changes from colourless to yellowish brown and then dark brown. This chemical can react with atmospheric oxygen and nitrogen oxides to form nitrosamines and nitrates that are harmful to the environment.
