N-Acetyl-S-(carbamoylethyl)-L-cysteine-13C3 is a metabolite of N-acetyl cysteine. It is also known as NACETYL S-(CARBAMOYLETHYL)-L-CYSTEINE or NACETYL S-(CARBAMYLETHYL) L-CYSTEINE. This metabolite has been used in clinical trials to assess the efficacy of blood pressure monitoring in humans and to study the mitotic checkpoint in experimental models. It has been found that urinary levels of this metabolite are higher in patients with chronic kidney disease, with a body mass index greater than 40, and in women. The carcinogenic potential of this substance via inhalation exposure has not been determined, but it may be due to the covalent adducts formed by NACETYL S-(CARBAMOYLETHYL)-L-CYSTEINE with DNA bases.
