Description

N-(2-phosphonoacetyl)-L-aspartic acid sodium (NPA) is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed to L-aspartic acid in vivo. It has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activity of peptide hormones, such as insulin and glucagon. In addition, NPA inhibits x-ray diffraction data of uridine and hl-60 cells. NPA also inhibits the activity of enzymes that are involved in cancer therapy, such as esterase and phosphatase. This drug may be useful for chemotherapeutic treatment because it has minimal toxicity even at high doses and resistant mutants cannot develop against it.
