2-Nitro-5-thiocyanatobenzoic acid (NTBC) is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the wild-type strain of the bacteria and prevents it from growing. NTBC binds to the disulfide bond in haptoglobin, which is a protein that transports hemoglobin, preventing the protein from functioning normally. This mechanism of action has been shown to work on various strains of bacteria, including those resistant to antibiotics. The basic fibroblast cell line has been used as a model system for studying NTBC’s effect on transcriptional regulation and kinetics. The enzyme inhibitors are able to bind with the enzyme’s active site and inhibit its activity by blocking access to its target substrate or by acting as an allosteric inhibitor. Epidermal growth factor (EGF) inhibits NTBC binding with haptoglobin, which leads to an increase in haptoglobin expression and decreased activity of NTBC. This analytical method
