• Description: Nicosulfuron is a sulfonylurea herbicide that inhibits the enzyme, acetolactate synthase (ALS), which is involved in the synthesis of branched-chain amino acids. Nicosulfuron inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the active site of ALS and blocking its activity. This inhibition prevents the production of isoleucine and valine, which are essential amino acids for bacterial growth. Nicosulfuron has been shown to have no effect on human serum or human serum enzymes, suggesting that it does not have a toxic effect on humans. It has also been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex.
