5-Norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylic acid is a reactive polycarboxylic acid with a viscosity of 2.8 cP at 25°C. It is stable in the presence of hydrochloric acid and hydroxyl groups but reacts with chlorine atoms and nitrogen atoms. 5-Norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylic acid has been used to produce polymer films that are used as coatings for steel pipelines to protect them from corrosion. This compound also has low energy values, which may be due to its unsaturated alkyl group structure.
