3-(1-Naphthyl)-DL-alanine is a small molecule that inhibits the protein synthesis of cells by binding to the ribosomes and preventing the formation of peptide bonds. 3-(1-Naphthyl)-DL-alanine has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the growth of leukemia cells, such as HL60 cells. It also has an inhibitory effect on other cancer cells, including prostate, breast, and lymphoma. This drug was synthesized from 6-carboxylic acid and 3-mercaptopropionic acid by a chemical diversity approach. The chemical structure of 3-(1-naphthyl)-DL-alanine is amphipathic, which makes it suitable for use in urine samples due to its high solubility.
