4-Nitro-1H-indole-3-carbaldehyde is a molecule that has been synthesized for use in the field of crystallography. The compound is a diffraction and fluorescence probe that has been shown to enhance the fluorescence of spirolactam. 4-Nitro-1H-indole-3-carbaldehyde was synthesized by reacting 1,4 nitrobenzene with indole in the presence of potassium carbonate. This reaction yielded an 80% yield and a melting point of 210°C. 4NICA can be used as a ligand to study the physicochemical properties of other molecules.
