Description

Neurosporene is a phytoene, a type of carotenoid. It can be found in the human serum and can be produced by the reaction between lycopene and hydroxyl group. Neurosporene has been shown to have a protective effect against congestive heart disease. The reaction mechanism is not well-understood, but it may be due to its ability to stimulate the production of nitric oxide. In addition, neurosporene has been shown to have antibacterial activity against bacterial strains that are resistant to antibiotics.
