4-Nitro-1,8-naphthalic anhydride is a fluorescent compound that has been shown to have endoplasmic and photochemical properties. It can be used as a donor in experiments that study the effects of hypoxic tumor cells on the stability of fluorophores. 4-Nitro-1,8-naphthalic anhydride can also be used to make amines, which are often used as cell culture media additives or reagents in biochemical reactions. The optical properties of 4-Nitro-1,8-naphthalic anhydride have been shown to depend on its functional groups. This compound fluoresces when it is bound to dna duplexes or nucleophilic compounds like amines.
