Description

4-Nitropropiophenone is an enantiomer of the hydrolysis product of escola. It has been shown to be optically active and undergoes hydrolysis reactions that are catalyzed by acid and enzymes. Hydrolysis is a process in which a chemical compound is broken down by the addition of water or other solvents. The cleavage reaction can be reversed by the addition of heat or base. Cleavage reactions are used to produce chiral molecules that are not naturally present in nature.
