(S)-Naringenin is a natural compound that is found in plants and has been shown to have inhibitory properties. It can be used to measure the amount of drug in urine by using chromatographic analysis with mass spectrometry. The rate constant for the reaction of (S)-naringenin with p-gp was determined to be 1.1 x 10^4 M-1s-1. Naringenin also has been shown to have a role in iron homeostasis, which may be due to its ability to induce Toll-like receptor 4 and 5 expression, as well as decrease TNF alpha production, and inhibit polymerase chain reactions.
