4-Nitrostilbene is a light emitting molecule that has been extensively studied for its use in organic light-emitting diodes. It is soluble in a variety of solvents and exhibits fluorescence, which can be used to study the molecule's optical properties. 4-Nitrostilbene has also been shown to exhibit an intense blue shift when excited by ultraviolet radiation.
