Description

4-Oxo-3,4-dihydroquinazoline-2-carboxylic acid (ODQ) is an anti-inflammatory agent that belongs to the group of carboxylic acids. It is a fluorescent compound and can be used as a marker in high-performance liquid chromatography. ODQ has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in models of Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, and Alzheimer's disease. A validated reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography assay for quantification of ODQ has also been developed. The drug has been found to inhibit serotonin release from platelets and to decrease the production of kynurenine from tryptophan by inhibiting monoamine oxidase B activity. ODQ may also be useful for the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
