Description

6-Oxopiperidine-3-carboxylic acid is a natural compound with antibiotic and anti-tuberculosis activity. It has been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other bacterial strains, such as Mycobacterium avium complex. 6-Oxopiperidine-3-carboxylic acid belongs to the group of lactams, which are ring compounds that contain two amide groups. The synthesis of this compound involves cyclization of the piperidine ring and formation of an amide bond between the newly created nitrogen atom and the carboxyl group. The molecular modeling studies show that 6-oxopiperidine-3-carboxylic acid is a strong inhibitor of tuberculosis (TB) in vitro and in vivo.
