- 3-Oxetanemethanol
Oxetane is a chemical compound that is the simplest member of the oxetane family. Oxetane can be obtained through oxidation of alcohols. Oxetane can be used as a precursor to polyoxetanes, which are used in the production of polyurethanes. Oxetane has a high yield and is decarboxylated at high temperatures to produce aliphatic alcohols. Oxetanes are also produced by polymerization of acid halides with biphenyl. Reagents such as alkali metals, potassium hydroxide, and sodium carbonate are often used in the synthesis of oxetanes.
