- 4-Oxazolecarbonitrile
Oxazole-4-carbonitrile is a drug that can be used in the treatment of cytomegalovirus infections. It inhibits viral replication by binding to the phosphoryl transfer site on DNA polymerase, thereby inhibiting DNA synthesis and cell division. The antiviral potency of oxazole-4-carbonitrile was found to be similar to ganciclovir in an experimental model system using a fibroblast cell line. Oxazole-4-carbonitrile has been shown to be effective against resistant strains of cytomegalovirus, such as those that are mediated by radical mechanisms. Oxazole-4-carbonitrile is also used in the synthesis of heterocycles, which are organic compounds containing at least one heteroatom (e.g., oxygen, nitrogen, or sulfur). These heterocycles play important roles in medicine and other fields due to their diverse structures and properties.
